Hey guys! Dc here! At the Design House, we’re all about branding better. But what does that mean, really? What makes a brand more than a logo and a catchy slogan? To us, it’s story and spirit that makes your brand stand out from the crowd and all around deadly! I’m going to let Stephen take you on a stroll through our work with Youth Ventures to see how we tapped into their brand. Take it away, Stephen!

We all know the thought of starting your own business can be daunting; you can have all the great ideas in the world, but without direction that’s all they are … ideas. That’s why we were thrilled to work on branding with Youth Ventures, whose mission is to mentor young, budding entrepreneurs, and help them turn their personal passions into thriving startups.

When Life Gives You Lemons

When you think about a kid’s first business, what’s the first thing that springs to mind? That’s right, a lemonade stand, where all you have is a homemade sign, a pitcher of lemonade, and the plucky determination to make your own money. We thought that entrepreneurial spirit and youthful gumption perfectly encapsulated Youth Ventures’ mandate, and it became the core of their branding concept.

The lemon really became the symbol that dictated the colours, style, and   personality of  the brand. We wanted that DIY spirit to translate to the logo and the  brand as a whole.  From the website and social media, to the promo videos and t-shirts, everything had to  say “give me the lemons, and I’ll make the lemonade!”

Meeting Allanah and Christian helped put a face on the brand, and hearing their stories established the voice and messaging of Youth Ventures. By giving young up-and-comers the tools to succeed, Youth Ventures turns a passing fancy into a profitable enterprise.
