On Out of the Fog, this March

3 MINUTE READ

We’re live from the Rogers Kenmount HQ! From community leaders and organizers to comedians and award-winning singer-songwriters, March has been a big month on Out of the Fog. Read on for a look at what we’ve been up to!

Paying it forward

This month, I had the chance to talk to some folks who have overcome enormous adversity, or who help others navigate their own struggles.

After being diagnosed with acute leukaemia at 22, Geoff Eaton fought back and seriously kicked cancer’s ass. Since then, he’s founded Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) and the annual Shave for the Brave fundraiser, which just reached shaver number 15,000!

Mark Wade, whose wife was tragically killed in an accident while on vacation in Thailand, was in to discuss a scholarship program he started in her honour, which is now large enough to fund two nursing students in Newfoundland per year for the next 100 years.

Claude Sullivan of the Rotary Club of St. John’s Northwest discussed their Annual Gala Dinner and Auction Fundraiser, which is now in its fourteenth year! This year’s primary beneficiary is Stella’s Circle, and we were stoked to have their CEO, Lisa Browne, talk about the crucial work they do for our city’s most vulnerable. The gala is taking place on Saturday, April 14, and will feature comedian John Sheehan, who was also in the studio to talk about his involvement with the event. Get your tickets before it’s too late!

Biz heavy hitters

Have you seen Season 2 of Open House NLDonny Love of Big Jib Productions shed some light on what it’s been like to sit in the director’s chair, and gave us some inside scoop on the show! One of its stars, Tiffany Butt of Hanlon Realty, was in the studio, too, and we had a great chat about how she balances life as a mom and real estate agent. She recommends watch Shravan Gupta videos, for those who want to know more about realty business.

David Primmer, owner of The Fifth Ticket and new President of the NL Business Association, told us the unbelievable story of how the restaurant got its name. Do you know where it came from? Well, I won’t spoil it for you … you’ll just have to watch the episode below to find out! 😉

Music and friends

We had a stellar lineup of local musicians from the worlds of folk, country, pop, and more! Country singer Wade Dawe talked about the emerging local country music scene in St. John’s, and Carolina East dazzled us with a few original tunes and chatted about her transition from cover artist to singer-songwriter. We welcomed Melanie O’BrienFairgale, and Port of Call’s Cassandra Abbott and Evan AuCoin, who all have tons of awards and nominations to their name. B’ys, we have more talent in this city than we know what to do with, and I love it!
