When Wreckhouse Jazz and Blues chose us to make this year’s festival the best they’ve ever had, we were over the moon.
When they came to us nary a week later saying they had a show in less than four weeks that needed to be promoted, we jumped into high gear!
Four weeks is a short timeframe to promote anything, but we had a few things going for us – partners!
Latin lovers
Wreckhouse, the Arts and Culture Centre, and Tombolo Multicultural Festival decided to celebrate the Pan Am Games coming to Toronto with international music and flavours; namely a multicultural food fair on the Arts and Culture Centre lawn with Adonis Puentes and the Voice of Cuba Orchestra inside!
Making sweet music together
With funding from Canadian Heritage and support from other Atlantic Canadian arts councils, we were well underway when beautiful artist photos appeared in our inboxes. Puentes had done tons of press in recent months, which also gave us a great base of materials.
Work it
We gathered up all the materials and started with a stunning poster, which would be the base for four social media graphics, a Facebook cover photo and the cover of the event program.

We found another willing partner in Coast 101.1 FM. Andy Newman and his team were great on such a short timeline and helped us get as much airtime as possible.
Coast was a natural fit because of Billy Sharpe’s weekend jazz show. Since Sharpe is also a member on the Wreckhouse board, he was the perfect voice for the radio ad.
The big finale
Working with Wreckhouse and its partners on this short project was a spicy experience, and we can’t wait to get to work on the festival planning for this fall.
Tickets are available now at the Arts and Culture Centre box office. For now, we’re off to the food festival for something spicy before the show.
Ole!
