Brainfood for The School Lunch Association

4 MINUTE READ

The School Lunch Program is a valuable initiative happening in and around the Eastern Avalon region that makes sure kids in our community fuel up to learn and to work to their potential each day. Our team was thrilled to partner with this fab organization, as well as Coast 101.1, Rogers TV, and other amazing sponsors to raise $45,000 to cover the costs of just some of those meals!

Brain Food For Lunch

The School Lunch Association is an amazing Volunteer-run Organization that ensures all kids — no matter their family’s situation — have a healthy lunch every day at the Schools in which the program is offered. The program most recently expanded to St. Augustine’s Elementary on Bell Island as of early March and positive outcomes have already begun!Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, car, sky and outdoor

The School Lunch Program relies on fundraising and community support to cover the costs that are necessary for running such an important initiative! About $400,000 needed to be raised this year, so for the first time The School Lunch Program partnered with Classic Hits Coast 101.1, and Rogers  for the First Annual Radiothon which took place from 10-3 at the Avalon Mall on Saturday, April 28.

The School Lunch Radiothon poster designed by DcDH

We are always stoked to team up with community organizations here at DcDH. When designing this poster, we really wanted it to POP! We used bright colours that compliment The School Lunch Association’s brand, and graphics that catch the eye, all with the goal of helping raise as much money as possible!

Eat it Up!

The event was a huge hit, and spectacular names such as Chris Andrews, Rachel Cousins Music, Waterfront Fire, The Kubasonics, John Sheehan, Octagon Pond Elementary Parents, Hazelwood Elementary Choir, The Halliday’s, —and even myself, Dc — performed at the mall and helped rake in over $45,000 for the cause! That is over 10% of the total costs needed to run the program for the entire year raised in just one day! Other sponsors that worked with The School Lunch Program to pull off this amazing fundraiser are: Hanlon Realty, Up Sky Down Films, Trades NL, Simply for Life, and People’s Optical.
